London

Today was “one of those days,” meaning a day when everything seems to go not as planned. It suggests a series of events or emotions that make the day especially challenging or unpleasant.

I woke up early, very early, at 4:03 without the alarm. It was already bright outside. I had my alarm set for 5:00 AM. I got out of bed at 5:13 and texted my brother, who was 2 hours ahead in the Middle East. He was driving overnight from Medina to Riyadh with Bhabijaan and little nephew Hamd. I texted him, asking if he’d reached his destination, and he said he would in 40 minutes.

The next couple of hours until I sat at my desk revising the presentation were uneventful. I left my desk at 7:45, ironed my shirt, and found a black spot on it. So, I changed and put on a new shirt. I left home at 8:34 for a presentation at 9 AM. I wish I hadn’t done so much preparation and just let it go. It started off shaky, but then I picked up confidence, and it went well. I thought it was okay during the day, but when I got back home, I had completely different emotions, thinking and saying I should have mentioned many other points.

It didn’t happen, and there is nothing I can do now to go back in time and mention them. I did the best I could, and I gave my best. That is what it was, and it is what it is meant to be.

I broke for lunch at 13:30 and ate by the river: fish, chips, and peas.

At 19:30, I went to the gym. It was packed. I did 4 sets of 8 reps of pull-ups, incline bench presses, and lateral raises. I had a decent shower and went back home. I made dinner, and my brother phoned on a video call with Hamd. We had about a 30-minute catch-up. I had also been on a call with a friend who lost his bike keys and was retracing his steps trying to find them. We said to each other, “It’s one of those days.”

Should I think of any positive things about the day?

3 things I felt grateful for today –

  • The white shirt was a good choice.

  • Grateful brother and family reached home.

  • Grateful strong sleep is coming now and I’m going to hit the bed.

Today in the news –

  • A cyber security company sent an update which rapidly crippledΒ airports, banks, stock exchanges and businesses around the world including the card system not working at my work to pay for lunch. A tiny file big enough to hold only a single web page image, it was responsible for the world’s biggest IT outage.

  • Public debt climbing record high worldwide – Even as the world’s economy expands steadily, deficits have piled up thanks to heavy spending in the wake of the pandemic. As a result, the amount of government debt from major nations is swelling by $2 trillion this year to a record $56 trillion.

What would it take for me and for you to wake up to a new beginning tomorrow, with full of motivation, energy, strength, bigger, thicker, leaner, muscular, stronger, wake up early, make it to workout in the morning, have a good workout, then get to work early too, work to go smooth, everything to be just fine with family, friends, and everyone around and then have a relaxing, relaxing, relaxing, yet a productive day tomorrow?

Goodnight, good luck!
