If you canโ€™t do good, donโ€™t do bad!

London

Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you dear Deedi!

Itโ€™s my sister Deediโ€™s birthday today โ€“ happy birthday to her! I called her last night at 3 a.m., and, she was awake. Theyโ€™d just gotten home from a party, and it was nice to hear sheโ€™d been enjoying herself.

As for my day, it went okay. I had a rough nightโ€™s sleep, waking up at least three times for no apparent reason. My alarm went off at 6:30, but I hit snooze and fell asleep again. The sunlight started coming in around 7:35, and that finally woke me up. I sat on the edge of my bed and started my day with 35 affirmations.

I felt good- energetic. wfh today, I checked our family WhatsApp chat first thing. Everything seemed fine there, and I also read my dadโ€™s usual morning prayer message, which was a nice start.

At 8:10, I headed to the gym. It was peaceful outside, although cold โ€“ probably around 6 degrees. The gym was quiet, so I had a quick workout: 4 sets of 12 pull-ups, incline bench shoulder presses, leg presses with 50 kilograms on each side, and some ab exercises. After a quick shower, I headed straight home and logged in to start work.

The workday was smooth. I spent most of it checking costs and finances. Around 16:45 p.m., I had a 30-minute call with mom, which was nice. After that, I prayed Maghrib, did some laundry, and cooked dinner- chicken and broccoli.

Caught up with a friend and then my brother, got to get for going in tmro work. I made sure my clothes, including socks, were all set. Then, I had some โ€œme time,โ€ which felt great. I put on a face mask- looked funny, and I slept with it.

Taking time for yourself is so important. If you donโ€™t make the effort to rest and recharge, life has a way of forcing you to slow down, often through stress. So, take breaks when you need them. Just rest, avoid your phone, and give your mind some downtime. If you can meditate, do that. Or simply sit quietly and stare at somethingโ€”an old photo, for instance. Pictures of loved ones or kids that make you laugh are especially uplifting.

Mental health is real, and itโ€™s just as important as physical health. Your mind needs rest and discipline, too. You canโ€™t let it run wild; it needs to work for you, not against you. And maybe, if we quiet it enough, itโ€™ll start listening to the heart.

Heading to bed shortly, three things Iโ€™m grateful for today:

  1. The technology that allows us to stay connectedโ€”itโ€™s amazing how easy it is to talk to loved ones.

  2. My trusty laptop backpack. Itโ€™s served me well, but I think itโ€™s time to request a new one from work.

  3. The promise of a good nightโ€™s sleepโ€”itโ€™s already calling me.

What would it take for me and for you to wake up 10 x times bigger, thicker, leaner more energetic, confident, happy, grateful, wake up early, make it to workout, have a good workout, and have everything to be okay with family, friends and everyone around, then have a relaxing, relaxing, relaxing, yet a productive day tomorrow?
